When Young Hearts Choose Peace: A Cross-Country Learning Experience

Conflict and Peace: Voices Across India, South Africa and Northern Ireland: A Multidisciplinary Activity for Grade V at Ridge School Kurnool

An activity conducted for Grade 5 students, the Conflict and Peace journey illuminated young hearts and minds. Through shared stories of India’s Partition, South Africa’s Apartheid, and Northern Ireland’s Troubles, students developed empathy through guided storytelling sessions. Art competitions bloomed with symbols of freedom, broken chains, and olive branches of unity. A Peace Tree displayed heartfelt messages of reconciliation. Role plays brought peacemakers and witnesses to life, nurturing compassion across divided histories. This interdisciplinary blend of history, art, and drama aligned with UN SDG 16, helping students understand that peace is not merely the absence of war, but harmony rooted in empathy, forgiveness, and shared humanity.
